Leah's Blog

Hello.
I think my poem is childish. However, it took a long time to figure out the right words. I think I could have used better words than I did. My poem was all rhyming. I was inspired by ice cream.
Thank you.

Your Oppinion

Hello,

I think that my poem is very detailed and oppinionated, and I also think that it really connects with the readers, giving them an emotional response. For example the first sentence states, "Standing on the front porch of my aunt Neicy's house, I can smell the warm cinnamon candle sticks..." I'm pretty sure that you can relate to that. Im sure that you go to places to celebrate Chrstmas, or someone may come to your house to celebrate. Either way you are celebrating Christmas with your family. Obviously my poem isn't perfect and it does need a little advice. So I was hoping you would help me. For instance in the poem there's one sentence that I had trouble. "The tall colorful Christmas tree was off by 2 inches....". I had a bit of trouble potrayig the image of a Christmas tree tilting. How can I make that sentence more detailed and showing the Christmas tree slanted. The basic problem that I'm having is potraying an image for different things and explaining it in words. Thank you and I hope that you can help!

First Blog Instructions

Hello Class,

For your first blog I would like you to write no less than 150 words of reflection on your poem and how your writing process is going so far.

What is going well? What could go better?
What would you most like to know about your writing from your peers?
What would you most like to focus on during our revision period? What kinds of activities would you find most helpful? What larger-order concerns do you want us to review more thoroughly? Images, energy, rhyme, rhythm, word choices, organization or purpose?

When detailing your opinions, always answer the question WHY. I.e. Replace "I still want to learn more about rhyme schemes," with "I still want to learn more about rhyme schemes because . . . ."

Also, remember to pose a question at the end of your blog and respond to one of your peer's blogs.

When you post, do so by clicking "New Post" and not "Comment."

Email if you have any questions.

Best,

Ms. Noon

Welcome to Blogging!

Hello Students,

Throughout this semester you will be responsible for creating blogs and responding to those of your peers and myself. This blog will be your chance to reflect on and analyze specific texts assigned for this course and issues that come up as we explore the many facets of effective creative writing. For each blog assigned, I will provide prompts or questions to guide your responses.

Every blog must meet the following criteria:
- A minimum of 150 words
- All but the first blogger must respond to another classmate's posting
- Pose a question at the end of your post

Here are some examples of excellent creative writing blogs that you may wish to emulate:

Hey Creative Writing:)
I really enjoyed the work shopping experience. I thought that the class did a great job on helping me understand the parts of my poem that were unclear and what were the good parts. When we were work shopping my poem, Ms. Noon mentioned how i used "echoing" in my poem and i would like to learn more about that. Also, how to develop slant rhymes without making them seem forced. I think the more we do work shopping it will be a smoother and less awkward process because i feel like nobody wants to be too critical or negative so not everyone says all that they are thinking. During our revision period i want to focus on taking out a little bit of the original words of Emily Dickinson's poem that i put in there and also creating more imagery. I also want to work on letting my instinct take over and not censoring everything that i write.
